The United States has officially announced the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. The country made the announcement on Wednesday (September 9th), according to Qatar-based Al-Jazeera. There are currently 5,200 US troops in Iraq. Of these, 2,200 troops will be withdrawn this month.
This is the first official announcement of the withdrawal of troops since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq. The United States has attacked Iraq’s then-president Saddam Hussein, accusing him of using chemical weapons. Although later the US claim was proved false.
The remaining 3,000 US troops will be left to help Iraqi security forces fight IS.US President Donald Trump has said that the US military presence in Iraq has not only failed to bring peace, security and stability to the Middle East, but has also increased tensions in the region.
